Moving your email: your options

Switching to WebOké and want to bring your existing mail with you? There are a few ways to do this. In all cases, your mail is copied: nothing changes in your old mailbox, so you lose nothing.

Email migration in My WebOké (recommended)Almost everyone. You pick your old provider from a list, the tool tests both mailboxes, shows progress per folder and picks up where it left off after an interruption. Also works with Gmail (app password) and with Outlook, Hotmail, Live and Microsoft 365 (sign in with Microsoft).Migrating email via My WebOké
IMAPSync Migrations in DirectAdminThose who prefer working in DirectAdmin and already know the old mail server's details. Works with a password or app password, not with the Microsoft sign-in.IMAPSync Migrations in DirectAdmin
Through your mail programMail that's only stored on your computer, for example because you always used POP3. You put the old and new mailbox side by side in your mail program and drag the folders across, or you export a .pst file from Outlook.IMAP or POP3: what's the difference?

Tip: Can't work it out? Our support team is happy to help. If you like, we can carry out the migration together with you.

The step-by-step plan

A migration works best in this order:

  1. Create your mailboxes at WebOké, using the same names as with your old provider (see Creating an e-mail address). Check that there's enough storage for your old mail (see Storage per mailbox and what happens when it's full).
  2. Copy your mail using one of the methods above. Your old mailbox keeps working as normal, so you can copy at your own pace.
  3. Transfer your domain or adjust the MX records, so new mail arrives at WebOké (see After the move: MX Records and your devices).
  4. Copy once more. Any mail that arrived at your old provider in the meantime will then be included too. Messages that have already been copied are skipped.
  5. Set up your devices for your mailbox at WebOké (see chapter 8, starting at All settings at a glance: servers, ports and security).
  6. Cancel your old mailbox once everything has worked well for a few weeks.

What do you need?

  • The email address and password of your old mailbox. For Gmail, an app password (see Migrating email via My WebOké).
  • The name of your old provider's IMAP server. For well-known providers, the tool in My WebOké fills this in automatically. Otherwise, you'll find it in your old provider's help pages, often something like imap.provider.com or mail.yourdomain.com.
  • The password for your new mailbox at WebOké.

Can I also do this in My WebOké?

Yes, and it's even easier there. In My WebOké, go to My Products and then the Email migration tab, or go directly to my.weboke.nl/emailverhuizen. You can read all about it in Migrating email via My WebOké.
